Lost Military Medals Found In Ct. Post Office
COS COB (CBS) ―
Postal employees in Connecticut make a discovery that has war veterans scratching their heads. Who would discard highly regarded medals and why?
Two purple heart medals and a bronze star were discovered inside a mailbox outside the Cos Cob post office during a routine collection run Friday. Gerry Van Gorden, a postal employee says, "Just in a little plastic baggie. They're still inside, still the way they were."
The purple heart is awarded to soldiers wounded in action. The bronze star given for heroic acts. There is no inscription on the medals and it is not clear whether or not they are authentic. Still, Vince Masi, a World War II and Korean War veteran is bothered by the discovery.
"It's sad to see that someone had to drop them off. The owner should be given the proper respect."
Could the medals have fallen out of a package or were they simply discarded? An investigation is now underway.
Postal and veteran officials are hoping the rightful owner comes forward to claim these medals so many have sacrificed to get.
