Brooklyn Mom Devastated By Murder Of Marine Son
Jan Pietrzak, His Wife Quiana Were Bound, Tortured, Shot To Death
4 Of Pietrzak's Colleagues Accused In The Murders
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
The brutal murders of a Marine Corps sergeant and his wife have left his mother grasping for answers in Brooklyn. The devastated mother was even more stunned when she learned the suspected killers are her son's own men.
Jan Pietrzak was married for just a few months to wife Quiana when their lives were snatched away inside their home.
"He was a good Marine, a good husband," says Henryka Pietrzak, Jan's mother. "It's hard to believe they're here no more and K'm never going to hear his voice or touch him."
Investigators say the newlyweds were bound, gagged, tortured, and Quiana sexually assaulted, before the pair were shot in their heads.
"It's too much. It's too much," says Mrs. Pietrzak.
Making matters worse is that the accused are Marines, two of whom worked for Sgt. Pietrzak at Camp Pendleton.
"That was a stab in the heart, right in the heart," his mother says.
While the Marines claim robbery was a motive, Sgt. Pietrzak's mother doubts that.
Sgt. Pietrzak was born in Poland and spent 10 years growing up in New York. Now a flag symbolizes his commitment to country.
"It means a lot because that's what's left," says Mrs. Pietrzak.
While the Marines may get the death penalty, Mrs. Pietrzak is hoping they'll spend their lives in prison.
"I want them to live a long life and think good and hard about what they did," she says.
Mrs. Pietrzak plans on leaving her home and heading out to California for the trial, whenever that may be. She wants to look the suspects in the eye and get some answers as to why they would commit such a crime.
Each of the Marines is charged with two counts of murder and rape. Prosecutors have not yet decided whether they'll pursue the death penalty against them.
