NY's Einstein College Of Medicine Gets $25 Million

NEW YORK (AP) ― A $25 million gift will be used to support several medical research projects at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.

The gift, announced Tuesday by the Bronx institution, is from Ruth L. and David S. Gottesman.

Dr. Ruth Gottesman was elected in 2007 as chairwoman of Einstein's Board of Overseers. She joined Einstein's Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center in 1968. Her areas of expertise include learning disabilities and adult literacy.

David Gottesman is the founder and senior managing director of the First Manhattan Company, an investment advisory firm. He was Yeshiva University board chairman from 1990 to 1998.

The donation will, among other things, establish the Ruth L. and David S. Gottesman Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Research; fund The Center for Epigenomics; and create The Ruth L. Gottesman Clinical Skills Facility.

Epigenomics is the study of chemical "marks" inside cells, with a focus on cancer and other diseases.
