NYPD: Couple Served Beer To Minors At S.I. Party
STATEN ISLAND (AP) ―
Authorities say a Staten Island couple served beer to guests as young as 14 at a Halloween bash and charged the teens admission.
Diane and Mark Diefenthal were arrested Saturday on misdemeanor charges of unlawfully dealing with a child. They were being held until an arraignment Sunday, and police were uncertain whether they had lawyers. A telephone message left at their home was not immediately returned.
Police say officers patrolling the neighborhood found drunken-looking 14-to-16-year-olds hanging out in the front yard.
Court papers say the teens told police they paid $5 to get in, and the couple gave them beer. He is 51; she's 43.
If convicted, they could face up to a year in jail.
