Massive Tax Increase For Mount Arlington Residents
Proposed Budget Would Hike Municipal Property Taxes By 43.6 Percent
MOUNT ARLINGTON, N.J. (AP) ―
Residents in one Morris County town are facing double-digit shock in their property tax bills.
Mount Arlington officials have proposed a budget that would raise municipal property taxes by 43.6 percent.
If approved, the 2008 property tax rate would be set at 60 cents per $100 of assessed value. That's up from 42 cents per $100.
Residents with homes assessed at $293,000 would see their annual municipal property tax bill go up $536.48 to $1,767.08.
Mayor Art Ondish says Mount Arlington is getting nearly $103,000 less from the state this year while the town's pension obligations skyrocket.
A public hearing on the proposed budget will be held Aug. 18.
