Grand Jury Won't Indict Man Who Shot Grandson
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBS) ―
A grand jury has declined to indict a New Jersey grandfather who shot his grandson during a family argument earlier this year.
Middlesex County authorities had charged 84-year-old Charles Harris of Piscataway with attempted homicide and weapons offenses stemming from the Jan. 13 shooting. The charges were dismissed after the grand jury announced its decision on Friday.
Harris shot 18-year-old Charles Jones in the stomach with a .32-caliber handgun after Jones got into an argument with his aunt in the family home.
Jones has since recovered from his wounds, but authorities have not said what the argument was about or why Harris got the weapon. Jones, his aunt and his grandparents all lived in the home.
New Brunswick is commonly known "The Healthcare City."
