New York is chockfull of great places to raise a family, but one place has been judge the very best of all: New Rochelle.
They're practicing for the Thanksgiving pageant at Webster School and giving thanks for a feather in the city's cap. That feather comes from BusinessWeek Magazine, which says New Rochelle is the best place in New York to raise a family.
It's no surprise to some of the town's residents.
"I'm not surprised at all, I consider the diversity we have in New Rochelle, and the fact that we have great schools," said Webster School Principal Joseph Williams.
In fact, Williams liked working in New Rochelle so much he moved his family there.
BusinessWeek chose its "best places" from cities that had at least 50,000 residents with median income between $40,000 and $100,000, and plenty of affordable housing.
New Rochelle may have the most diverse housing stock in Westchester County.
"We have public housing, we have moderate housing, we have high end housing that runs into the millions and everything in between," said New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson. "Whatever your circumstances you can find a home in New Rochelle and be welcomed into this community."
The town has also done a terrific job keeping families from every socio-economic level in the public schools.
BusinessWeek says the diversity in the schools is on of New Rochelle's main attractions.
BUSINESSWEEK SAYS THE DIVERSITY IN THE SCHOOLS IS ONE OF NEW ROCHELLE'S MAIN ATTRACTIONS.
"It's very diverse, it has lots of different kind of people. The kids get to interact with different people," says New Rochelle resident Marcy Klein.
Joining New Rochelle on the BusinessWeek list: Edison was chosen the best place to raise a family in New Jersey, and West Haven was tops in Connecticut.
