NYC Offers Cheap Holiday, Cultural Activities
NEW YORK (AP) ―
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he wants to remind New Yorkers facing tough times that there are plenty of free or cheap holiday and cultural activities available throughout the five boroughs.
Bloomberg held a press conference Monday to draw attention to cultural institutions, performances and activities open to all.
Among the options on the mayor's list are:
- live jazz and a "poetry jam" at the Brooklyn Museum, for free.
- a post-turkey "super hike" through the trails of Van Cortlandt Park, for free.
- ice skating at rinks around the city, for $13 or less.
- pay-as-you-wish Wednesdays at the Bronx Zoo, featuring a new Madagascar exhibit.
- Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa storytelling at the Brooklyn Public Library.
- an exhibition by Jenny Holzer illuminating the Guggenheim, for free.
