No Homicides In Newark For More Than 30 Days
NEWARK (AP) ―
Newark is getting a break from murder.
The state's largest city has not had a homicide in more than 30 days. Police say that's the longest stretch since a 40-day lull in 1963.
Newark has had just three homicides since the beginning of the year.
As a result, the city's 10 homicide detectives have more time to review unsolved cases.
Police think the break may be due to several factors, including more street surveillance cameras and gang sweeps last year.
The city had 99 killings last year, and 107 the year before.
