Jurors at the Brooklyn murder trial of Nixzmary Brown's mother have heard a 911 call in which a neighbor frantically shouts that the 7-year-old is unconscious.
The neighbor, Ulbis Rivera, tearfully testified Friday at the trial of Nixzaliz Santiago.
Rivera says that -- even though Santiago was heard moaning in the background of the 911 call -- the mother seemed calm up to that point.
Rivera says Santiago told her Nixzmary had drowned, but the little girl was lying on the floor, clothed and dry.
The incident hastened reforms in New York's troubled child welfare agency and made Nixzmary's name synonymous with child abuse.
Her stepfather, Cesar Rodriguez, was convicted of manslaughter for delivering the blow that killed the malnourished child.
