PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. (AP) ―
A Long Island man is under arrest for leaving his 18-month-old daughter in a parked van while he went to work.
Juan Alvizures, a 33-year-old Hempstead resident, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Suffolk County police responded to a 911 just before 8 a.m. Saturday. In a Pathmark parking lot on Nesconset Highway, in Port Jefferson, they found the baby girl alone inside the unlocked minivan, crying, dirty and hungry.
Police say the baby was left alone for four hours.
She was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The county's Department of Social Services and Child Protective Services are investigating.
Police are holding Alvizures overnight and he's to be arraigned on Sunday.
Authorities did not immediately know whether he has a lawyer.
