Amtrak Begins Repairs On Northeast Corridor
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) ―
Amtrak is starting work to replace concrete rail ties along the Northeast Corridor. One of four tracks will be taken out of service.
NJ Transit issued new schedules that reflect the loss of 25 percent of the corridor's capacity.
NJ Transit spokesman Dan Stessel tells the Asbury Park Press that adjustments have been made to departure times across the entire system to reflect the reduced track capacity.
Stessel said the number of trains will be reduced primarily during off-peak hours.
There are new schedules for commuters who use the North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley and Midtown Direct lines.
NJ Transit said the railroad tie work will continue through the fall and may extend into next year.
