NY's Citymeals-On-Wheels Suffers Setback

NEW YORK (AP) ― New York's Citymeals-on-Wheels program is suffering from the economic downturn.

Executive Director Marcia Stein says the rising cost of food and fuel have left the 26-year-old charity struggling to keep up.

Stein estimates Citymeals has lost $500,000 due to the downfall of a major Wall Street sponsor. Regular New Yorkers are still giving, but in smaller amounts.

Says Stein: "Every $6 we don't raise is a meal we don't deliver."

She adds: "How do you postpone delivery of a meal to a 95-year-old person in a wheelchair?"
