Fire Safety Proposals At NYC Construction Sites
NEW YORK (AP) ―
A New York City report issues dozens of new recommendations to improve fire safety at construction sites nearly a year after a deadly skyscraper blaze killed two firefighters.
The report says contractors should check standpipe connections daily and visually check the entire standpipe once a week, and obtain permits to cut or cap standpipe systems.
A standpipe that hadn't been inspected in over a year and had been cut hampered firefighting efforts at the blaze last August at the former Deutsche Bank building.
The report says city departments need to tell each other about pending abatement or demolition jobs. It also says the city should pursue legislation to issue violations to hundreds of properties owned by other governments. That would include the United Nations and the World Trade
Center site.
