The Department of Education is closing down six New York City public schools because of bad grades.
The schools affected are: EBC - East New York High School for Public Safety and Law in Brooklyn, Business School for Entrepreneurs Middle School in the Bronx, the Tito Puente Education Complex Middle School in East Harlem, P.S. 101 in East Harlem, P.S. 79 in the Bronx, and the Academy of Environmental Science -- Middle School and High School -- in East Harlem.
Parents CBS 2 HD spoke to were stunned to hear that their child may have to change schools.
"I didn't know about it until now," said Cindy Lopez. "I'm shocked."
"As we've said from the beginning, when a school is really not working it's time for us to give those students and that community new options," said Schools Chancellor Joel Klein.
Plans to re-assign the children have not yet been announced.
