NYC Songwriter Charged In Fatal Harvard Shooting
Jabari Jordan Copney, Songwriter For R&B Group New Edition, Pleads Not Guilty Of First-Degree Murder
MEDFORD, Mass. (AP) ―
Authorities say a fatal shooting at a Harvard dorm was a drug-related robbery attempt by a songwriter for the R&B group New Edition.
Twenty-year-old Jabari Jordan Copney of New York City pleaded not guilty Friday in Medford in the shooting of 21-year-old Justin Cosby of Cambridge.
He was ordered held without bail.
District Attorney Gerard Leone says Cosby had been selling drugs to Harvard students.
Leone says Copney and two friends went to Harvard on Monday with the intent of robbing Cosby, who was not a student there.
Defense attorney J.W. Carney Jr. says Copney is not guilty of first-degree murder and is "shell-shocked."
Carney says Copney wrote for New Edition. He is listed as the writer of "Feelin' It."
