NYPD Officers Receive 9.7 Percent Pay Hike

NEW YORK (CBS) ― The men and women in blue are seeing more green, now that a state panel has awarded New York City Police officers a 9.7 percent retroactive pay hike.

The decision boosts base pay for rookies from slightly above $25,000 to nearly $36,000.

The arbitration panel is also boosting maximum base pay for NYPD officers from $59,588 to $65,382.

In 2007, the State board slashed the pay so low it hurt recruitment. Officers hired under the terms of the previous contract are eligible for several thousand dollars in back pay.
