Five frightening attacks and robberies have shocked the West Village, with the suspect preying on women in their own homes.
On Monday night police were on the hunt for the man who targeted his latest victim earlier in the day.
His targets are women, some elderly.
And his trick is to most often pose as a deliveryman and then push his way into homes.
His victims open their doors thinking they're getting mail, but they get tied up and robbed of cash, jewelry and electronics.
Now the suspect's sketch is circulating all over Manhattan. Police said the man is 40 to 50 years old, and between 5-foot-8 and 6-2.
The first robbery was on 9th Street on Oct. 8, followed by similar home invasions: two separate ones on Bank Street, another on Ellington Parkway and the latest earlier Monday -- on West 12th Street. The 79-year-old woman who answered the door was struck by the suspect, leaving a cut on her lip.
Police say that makes her the first victim to be physically harmed.
When Police Commissioner Ray Kelly displayed the sketch he talked about an atypical case where the victim did not let the man in.
"In one incident a cleaning woman went out to do laundry in the hallway in a laundry room. She comes back, she says she finds this individual in the apartment," Kelly said.
