Stunning charges have been leveled against a New York City police officer. Investigators say he raped a student in his karate school.
Middletown Police served a search warrant on the locker of a suspended city cop in the 26th Precinct house in Morningside Heights. It belongs to 39-year-old officer Trent Young, who's been arrested on rape charges relating to his off-duty job as a karate instructor.
Young is well liked among those who know him.
"I'm saying to you that he's good," shocked neighbor Mimi Ferrari said. "He's a good friend and family person."
The sensei at Iron Tiger Martial Arts is accused of bullying a young girl into sex, using a loyalty oath she took when she earned her green belt. Despite the charges, students like and trust him.
"He was just nice," student Liz Tflegler said. "He was respectful."
Police tell CBS 2 HD Young had sex with a 15-year-old more than 20 times in the past year and a half -- both at the New Jersey school and his Middletown home, and they've since found a second teen who says she rejected his sexual advances.
Officer Young was arrested on his way to work Thursday after he left his home. He's since made bail but wasn't home Friday when Middletown Police came by to serve him with papers -- an order of protection involving the primary victim.
Through it all they said he seemed to expect what was happening.
"Never once, even when he was being transported, did he ask us what this was about, which I found curious -- that he never questioned us," Lt. Patrick Friedman said.
