NYPD Investigates Fatal Police-Involved Shooting
Officers Taken To Local Hospital After Brooklyn Incident
BROOKLYN (CBS) ―
Police were still investigating the incident in East New York Wednesday morning, where narcotics officers shot and killed a suspect Tuesday night. The shootout sent three officers to the hospital, and they are going to be okay.
It was just past nine o'clock Tuesday night when narcotics officers arrived on the scene at 274 Fountain Avenue where they were conducting an investigation. Minutes later a man was shot and killed.
Neighbors say they heard at least six gunshots from the crime scene that had unfolded outside their doors. Resident Vladimir Deleo described the shooting: "It was like pow and da da da da."
Details of exactly what happened were still sketchy Wednesday morning, but according to police, after officers arrived on scene, a suspect pointed a gun at them and they fired back.
Police did not say whether the man actually fired at the officers. They recovered a revolver at the scene.
Three officers were taken to the hospital after the shootout and so was the man they say was armed. The suspect was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
The man who was killed has not been identified by police, who are withholding his name until his family has been notified.
