QUEENS (CBS) ―
A 16-year-old student was shot in the neck while involved in a shootout with a Crips Gang member outside of an Ozone Park school, sources tell CBS 2. The victim studies at the Queens Career Development Center, School #752.
The school, located at 142 St. and Linden Blvd. is for children with disabilities, and has grades 6-12. The school has been locked down while police canvas the area, searching for suspects.
Police say the incident began around 10:40 Wednesday morning when officers on patrol happened upon the dispute. The officers say the two males were already involved in the violent altercation.
One officer had a confrontation with a suspect, who police say fired at the officer. The officer also drew his weapon, but neither he or the suspect were injured.
The suspect, described as a black male wearing a black "8-ball" jacket, fled the scene heading south on 142nd St.
Officers recovered a .22 caliber gun from a nearby driveway, but it's unclear whether that is the gun used to shoot the teen victim.
