CBS 2's Pablo Guzman OK After Horrific Car Crash

Veteran Reporter Escapes Single-Car Wreck That Left Police Stunned There Wasn't A Fatality

Pablo To Lou Young: 'I Shouldn't Be Here'

NEW YORK (CBS) ― A tragedy almost hit the CBS 2 HD family on Monday night.

Veteran reporter Pablo Guzman was involved in a horrible car wreck, one that left most of us holding our breath.

When you see the pictures you will be amazed that Pablo survived. On Tuesday night Pablo talked to CBS 2 HD about the accident.

The accident happened on the Cross County Parkway in Yonkers. It was a single-car wreck that police were amazed didn't result in a fatality.

He got out of the hospital Tuesday night with bruises, scrapes, two broken ribs and a heck of a story to tell. His ride is gone but we are thrilled to report Pablo is still with us – safe but sore.

"It really hurts. I'll be honest: As I've slept … parts of my dreams go back to what happened," Pablo said. "You know, I see the car spinning and I'm just wondering if I could have done anything different. The paramedics and police said, 'You know, God must have something else for you to do.'"

Lucky doesn't begin to describe our friend who lived through this. The car is in pieces. The back of it is missing. The wheels are essentially off.

"First there's this feeling where I can't control this," Pablo said. "You see the wall coming up. There's a rock wall and you're worried about what you are about to hit. And you're fighting to like regain control of the car and you're losing. So there was that panic.

"They said that I flipped. I don't know if the car flipped. You know, am I going to get out of this alive? Is it going to catch on fire? There was this really horrible smell and the car was filled with smoke. And, you know, you wonder, am I going to live?"

It was a single vehicle wreck on the highway, though witnesses say someone cut Pablo off and he lost control. He's grateful no one else was hurt and we're grateful beyond words.

"Lou, you saw the car. I shouldn't be here man," Pablo said. "My mother is lighting candles."

The primary injury to Pablo is marked by the seat belt that was across his chest, the same one that saved his life and broke two ribs.

Pablo should be back with his CBS 2 HD family doing what he does best in a couple of weeks.

Pablo is now resting comfortably at home, but you can send him your get well wishes. Click here to submit your get well wishes to Pablo!
