Authorities Identify NJ Park Worker Killed By Tree
MANALAPAN, N.J. (CBS) ―
Authorities have released the name of a worker who was killed Wednesday by a falling tree in a state park in Monmouth County.
Thirty-five-year-old Deny Morton of Howell was pronounced dead at the scene in Monmouth Battlefield State Park, about 20 miles east of Trenton.
Authorities said Thursday that Morton and another worker were cutting trees in the park Wednesday morning. A dead tree that was leaning against the one they were cutting fell, striking Morton in the head.
The other worker was not injured but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Monmouth Battlefield State Park is a 2,928-acre New Jersey state park located on the border of Manalapan and Freehold Township. The park preserves the historical battlefield on which the American Revolutionary War's Battle of Monmouth was waged.
