Parking Ticket Uproar Hits The Bronx

Residents Say Traffic Agent Did More Than 'Fill Out Quotas'

By CAROLYN COSTELLO, CBS 2 HD News
RIVERDALE, N.Y. (CBS) ― Some residents in Riverdale say a rookie traffic agent is "filling her quota" by handing out bogus parking tickets. The angered drivers are demanding an NYPD investigation.

Robert Dickstein has been slapped with four parking tickets -- each with a $115 fine. Not only are they expensive, Dickstein said they're bogus.

"Not only did I never park here, but the street, as you can see, has no parking restriction," Dickstein said.

Dickstein said his frustration turned to suspicion when he noticed each of the tickets had been issued by the same NYPD traffic agent.

"It's an officer T. Flight," Dickstein said.

Meanwhile, similar complaints are pouring in to community board member Tony Cassino.

He said at least eight people claim they've been falsely charged by agent Flight. They said tickets that were never on their cars came in the mail, sometimes months after the alleged violation. Luckily, they can remember exactly where they were parked.

"You know what worries me? How wide spread is this? Are there others?" Cassino said.

Two more tickets, according to Dickstein, were issued to an abandoned car parked in the same spot for months, but according to the paperwork it was illegally parked all over town.

"We need an answer, from an investigation to know what really happened here and why," Cassino said.

Commissioner Ray Kelly said the NYPD is listening.

"We just received this so Internal Affair is investigating," Kelly said.

CBS 2 HD tried to find agent Flight at home Thursday. A woman who said she's Flight's aunt spoke on her behalf.

When asked if she thought agent Flight she would do something dishonest like that, Virginia Dewberry said, "I don't really think so ... not my niece."

She said her niece was off at work, doing the job she really enjoys.
