A high speed police chase on Long Island ended with an SUV slamming through the front wall of a Patchogue house late Tuesday night.
Police say Frank Dawson, 24, was behind the wheel of a GMC Yukon he allegedly stole Sunday in Bayport, when an officer attempted to pull him over in Medford for appearing drunk behidn the wheel. Dawson, however, had other ideas, refusing to stop and instead sped away.
Dawson, a Middle Island resident, led police in a chase that took them onto Clark Street in Patchogue, where he eventually jumped from the vehicle while in motion. The truck then swerved into a house, crashing into Chris Carapezza's living room around 9 p.m.
Carapezza, miraculously, had just left the room and was not hurt, police said.
"He got up when his wife called him to come into the other room, and for that I think he felt fortunate that he was not injured," said Suffolk County Police Lt. Ed Reilly.
Dawson was apprehended a short distance from the scene. He has been charged with posession of a stolen vehicle, reckless endangerment, and DWI.
Julie Jacobsen, Carapezza's neighbor who took the photographs below, was shocked by the incident.
"We just figured there was some sort of crash, someone escaped. I figured it was drunk driver when I saw the truck and we came outside," she said.
Dawson entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment Wednesday and is being held on $150,000 bail.
