Two people are in critical condition after an accident involving a pedicab near the Williamsburg Bridge on Wednesday morning.
Witnesses say the pedicab was coming down the ramp onto Bedford Street when it came directly into the path of an oncoming taxi cab around 7:30 a.m.
The 22-year-old female passenger and the 30-year-old male pedicab driver were both unconscious. The other male passenger was not hurt.
Both the driver and passenger were taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious condition.
The ramp is open to pedestrians and bicycles, but not pedicabs.
"I have never seen a pedicab on there," local resident Adam Berenzweig told CBS 2's John Slattery.
"Some pedicab drivers know they're not allowed to be on the ramp. They're only supposed to be in Midtown," says pedicab driver Laramie Flick.
"You are not supposed to be riding in Brooklyn," added Flick. "They're not supposed to be on the bridges."
