Off-Duty NYPD Policeman Dies On NY Parkway

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) ― An off-duty New York City police officer has been killed when his car crashed into a state Department of Transportation truck on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Rockland County.

State police identified the victim as 30-year-old Christopher Morelli of Newburgh, who was a detective with the New York Police Department. An NYPD spokesman said Morelli had joined the force in 2000 and was assigned to the Central Robbery Squad.

The truck driver was treated for minor injuries after the accident Friday morning.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
