Police say a pregnant woman went into labor while driving and hit a pedestrian on the sidewalk in New York City. The woman was driving Westbound on 49th Street when she lost control of her SUV. It drove up the sidewalk, hitting four pedestrians and took out the guard rail above the ice rink at Rockefeller Center.
Police told CBS 2 it could have been a lot worse however. The four pedestrians all sustained minor injuries. They were all treated and released.
For the bystanders enjoying their Sunday afternoon stroll, it was an experience they won't soon forget.
"You just have to be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out. Even when you drive you have to be aware of the drivers. You have to do the same thing when you're on the sidewalk," said witness Jenna Reed.
The woman was helped from the vehicle and taken to Cornell Medical Center. There is no word on the baby she was carrying
Police say they do not plan to file criminal charges.
