A White Plains priest admitted Tuesday to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars of money from his church, including donations from parishioners intended for Hurricane Katrina victims.
Patrick Dunne, who has been a parish priest at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church since 1991, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree grand larceny, a felony.
Investigators said between 2002 and 2007, Dunne stole more than $430,000 from the church, taking money donated from the church building fund, a Hurricane Katrina collection fund, and the church's weekly offerings.
He also wrote checks to himself with the church account and hid the receipts from church officials.
Authorities said he used the money for personal expenses, including "recreational pursuits."
He faces a maximum of five to 15 years in a state prison and will be sentenced on Jan. 12, 2010.
