The men and women who keep New York's skyscrapers and other commercial buildings clean and running are protesting over their wages.
The 26,000 union members say the real estate industry is booming while their wages have dropped 5 percent in the three years since their last contract was signed.
The janitors, doormen and elevator operators planned a march on Wednesday afternoon from Times Square to Rockefeller Center. Their contract expires Dec. 31.
The union has threatened a New Year's Day strike if its demands are denied.
Industry officials say New York City already has the highest building worker salaries in the country.
The workers are represented by Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union.
