Police: Queens Teacher Sent Sex Videos To Students

Middle School Teacher Accused Of Sending Sexually Explicit E-mails To 12-Year-Old Girls

NEW YORK (CBS) ― A Queens middle school teacher was arrested and charged with sending sexually explicit videos and e-mail messages to three of his 12-year-old female students, District Attorney Richard A. Brown announced Thursday.

The teacher, identified as 22-year-old Umesh Ramjattan, of the Richmond Hill section of Queens, was a first-year English teacher at MS-137 in the Ozone Park section of the borough.

Brown said Ramjattan, who began teaching just one month ago, gave his e-mail address to the three students and told them they could contact him with questions regarding their schoolwork. Once they did, Ramjattan began sending indecent videos, pictures, and messages to them.

Officials said that Ramjattan also instant messaged the students and asking them questions of a sexual nature.

One of the victims said the teacher later sent her a video of him having sex with his girlfriend, while another said he e-mailed him a picture of himself shirtless.

The third victim claimed that after she has e-mailed him for help with her homework, he responded by instant messaging her with more sexually explicit questions.

Brown said authorities were contacted after the parents of one of the girls alerted them about the e-mail with sex video.

"This case should serve as a clear and unmistakable warning that law enforcement is prepared to apprehend and prosecute sexual predators who betray and defile youngsters," Brown said in a statement.

Ramjattan was arrested Thursday is being held pending arraignment in Queens Criminal Court in Kew Gardens on charges of disseminating indecent material to minors and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say he admitted to the inappropriate conversations and e-mails, but said he only sent them after school.

If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison.
