The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation announced access restrictions to Robert Moses State Park Thursday.
This restriction is due to rough surf conditions and high tides that eroded a significant amount of sand from the entire beachfront on Sunday, June 29 and Monday, June 30.
Beachfronts at Fields 4 and 5 received the most damage by the erosion. Because the beach at Parking Field 5 can accomodate only parking for 40 percent of its normal capacity and beach at Parking Field 4 can accomodate only parking for 60 percent of its normal capacity, parking in those fields will be limited to 40 percent and 60 percent accordingly.
This will allow visitors enough beachfront to place their blankets on the sand and the lifeguards to safely carry out their duties.
When Fields 4 and 5 reach their parking capacity as outlined above, all vehicles will be directed to Parking Fields 2 and 3.
The numbers may be reduced or expanded based on prevailing tidal conditions.
