Debra Ryan, of Armonk, admitted to investigators that she helped Samuel Israel pack up the RV and saw him park it on a highway rest area on June 9, the day he was supposed to report to federal prison for the start of a 20-year term.

Hedge-fund swindler Samuel Israel III is still trying to plead guilty to skipping out on prison by faking his suicide.
Israel's lawyer, Barry Bohrer, says Israel will admit in court Tuesday -- if he's allowed -- that he failed to surrender on June 9 for a 20-year term for bilking investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Instead, Israel allegedly faked his suicide on a bridge and went on the lam in an RV until turning himself in on July 2. He left his SUV on a bridge north of New York City with the words "Suicide is Painless" etched into the dust on the hood.
Israel was in federal court in White Plains to plead guilty last month, but the judge postponed the case when Israel said his treatment for an addiction to painkillers had affected his ability to think clearly. Bohrer said Monday that treatment is still having "substantial effects" on Israel.
