List Of Tri-State Schools Closed Due To H1N1 Fears

Here is the current list of schools, public and private, in the CBS 2 viewing area that have announced they will close their doors due to a significant number of students or faculty out with flu-like symptoms. Not all schools have students confirmed to have the swine flu, however, they are shutting down as a precaution.

As of 5/28 8:00pm, 12 public schools and programs - 4 in Brooklyn, 6 in Manhattan, 1 in Queens, and 1 in the Bronx - will be closed Friday, May 29.

As of 5/29 7 p.m., 1 Brooklyn public school will be closed until June 5.

As of 6/2 at 8:45 p.m., 2 Brooklyn public schools will be closed until June 8.
All other New York City public schools are open and operating normally. We are working with the Department of Health to keep New Yorkers informed and the latest information will always be available on this page.

Symptoms of the swine flu include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting as well. Anyone experiencing severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, should seek health care and treatment. The best way to prevent additional cases of flu in schools is to stay home when sick, cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing, and wash hands frequently.

For those who are ill, the recommendation is to stay home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours.

Eating pork or pork products cannot spread the swine flu.
