NYC Mayor Opens Bronx Playground

Bloomberg Cuts Ribbon On Public School 138's $400,000 Community Playground

NEW YORK (AP) ― A new school playground in the Bronx will be open on weekends and vacations so that the community can benefit when school is not in session.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg cut the ribbon Wednesday on Public School 138's $400,000 playground.

The playground is the first to be renovated as part of a plan to open 290 schoolyards as playgrounds in neighborhoods that are short on parks.

Bloomberg announced a goal last year of ensuring that all New Yorkers live within a 10-minute walk of a park or playground.
