The Rev. Al Sharpton is planning a march to protest what he sees as inequalities in the prosecution of a racially charged shooting on Long Island.
John White, who is black, was convicted of manslaughter last week in the August 2006 shooting outside his Miller Place home. His bullet killed a white teenager, Daniel Cicciaro Jr. The teen and four friends, all white, had shown up at the home looking to fight White's son. They were unarmed.
Sharpton notes that the white teens weren't prosecuted for forming what he calls a menacing "mob." The civil rights activist says that proves the Suffolk County justice system doesn't treat blacks and whites equitably.
He says the march will be Jan. 5 outside the Riverhead courthouse.
A spokesman for Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota is declining to comment.
