Sharpton's Ex-Wife, Daughter Arrested In NYC
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
The Rev. Al Sharpton's ex-wife and their daughter have been arrested during a dispute over a traffic stop.
Lawyer Michael Hardy said Sharpton's former wife, Kathy Jordan, and Dominique Sharpton were arrested Friday evening in Manhattan.
Hardy said the women were arrested when a dispute erupted after police pulled over the car Dominique was driving for allegedly running a red light.
The women were taken to a nearby precinct and later released. They were given desk appearance tickets for resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and obstruction of governmental administration.
Hardy called the arrests "highly questionable and unusual."
Sharpton, speaking through spokeswoman Rachel Noerdlinger, said police possibly overreacted. He said he would let lawyers and police sort it out.
Sharpton and Jordan were married in 1980. They renewed their wedding vows at the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem in 2001.
