Long Island residents took advantage of Friday's snow. Many didn't worry about the weather, and went straight to the mall to spend the day holiday shopping.
Slowed and inconvenienced, but with scant days remaining holiday power shoppers on Long Island, including European vacationers, would not be stopped by treacherous conditions.
Merchants did their best to clear pathways, frantic that this wallop of winter would further erode an already dismal shopping season.
Roads leading to major malls were ice covered and schools closed altogether or let out early. Many shoppers arrived by trains.
If the snow continues to fall, or the roads turn icy, Saturday's holiday shopping could be curtailed.
