Court: NY State Senate Ballots Should Be Recounted
ALBANY (AP) ―
An appeals court says more ballots should be recounted in a potentially pivotal New York state Senate election.
Republican Sen. Frank Padavan leads Democrat James Gennaro by about 580 votes in the 11th Senate District in Queens. The further recount by the New York City Board of Elections involves about 2,000 ballots, including nearly 1,800 ruled invalid on Election Day.
GOP spokesman Joe Conway says that's the same board that found those ballots invalid, making changes unlikely.
Gennaro campaign spokesman Mike Barfield says Republican attempts to stop the recount failed, and many disputed ballots were proper.
Democrats won a 32-30 Senate majority should Padavan stay.
