Crimefighting Technology To Tackle Subway Delays

NEW YORK (AP) ― New York City Transit officials are tackling subway delays with crimefighting technology.

A system similar to the one police use to analyze crime statistics will now be used to determine why subway trains are behind schedule.

NYC Transit President Howard Roberts calls it a major effort to deal with delays that have gone up by more than 27 percent in the past year.

Transit officials say they're just starting to develop their version of the city's CompStat system, and did not say when it would be in use.

They say that in general, track work is the leading cause of delays. Other reasons including sick passengers and passengers who hold doors for other people.
