Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the head of New York City's Housing Authority is leaving to take a job in the private sector.
Tino Hernandez has served as chairman of the Housing Authority for seven years. Hernandez appeared Friday with the mayor on WOR Radio's "The John Gambling Show with Mayor Mike," where the announcement was made.
The public housing authority -- the nation's largest -- provides affordable housing for more than 408,000 low- and moderate-income New Yorkers.
The mayor says the city will conduct a national search for Hernandez's replacement.
Hernandez is taking a job as president and CEO at Samaritan Village, Inc., a substance abuse treatment provider in the New York City, where he had worked before entering public service.
