Although Danny will bring the most trouble to Long Island, it is ruining weekends all across the tri-state with a separate storm system bringing even more rain.
A rainy rush hour made commutes slower on rails and roadways. For many, their next stop is a coastal one, with the final weekend before labor day upon us, even though they know this is not the best weekend for a getaway to the beach.
Trish Botta is heading for Jamesport in a Hampton Jitney bus. With raindrops dripping down the windows, riders worry their beach weekend will be a washout.
"It does look less crowded," said Botta. "I think a lot of people were scared off by the bad weather."
Nina Tinikashvili of Greenport knows when she gets to the North Fork of Long Island she'll likely spend lots of time indoors. Surpringly, she's cool with that.
"We just stay inside stay inside, spend time with family and friends, play games go to the movie theater," she said.
No matter where they wind up this weekend, residents and tourists will scramble away from showers, seeking out shelter, and doing what they can to salvage one of the last weekends of summer as it appears to slide down the drain.
"[I'm] indifferent. We had a few days of sun, we made the best of it, ahat's how it's going to be," said Inwood resident Sokin Won.
