Trump Taj Mahal Settles For $1.2M Over Toilet Fall

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) ― The Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort has reached a $1.2 million settlement with a Philadelphia woman who claimed she was injured when the toilet she was sitting on broke away from the wall in her hotel room bathroom.

Jean Ciocci, 74, had claimed in her lawsuit that she was "thrown violently to the floor" during the Oct. 8, 2004, mishap.

"I think the Trump casino behaved responsibly in terms of recognizing that the toilet wasn't properly mounted and by offering a fair settlement in this case," Ciocci's Philadelphia attorney, Daniel J. Mann, told The Press of Atlantic City for Saturday newspapers.

Tom Hickey, a spokesman for the Taj Mahal's operator, Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., declined to comment on the details of the settlement in the lawsuit, filed in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court.

"Obviously, we regret anyone sustaining an injury of any kind in our facility," Hickey told The Press.

Ciocci had claimed that injuries from the fall at the Taj Mahal prevented her from avoiding more serious injuries during a second fall at a Reading, Pa., social club in 2006. She claims the second fall left her permanently disabled.
