The fate of a one-time New Jersey Democratic powerbroker will soon rest with jurors in Trenton.
For eight weeks, the panel has heard testimony about whether former state Sen. Wayne Bryant broke any laws with a job at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Federal prosecutors say Bryant's job was really a bribe to encourage him to secure more funding for the school. He's also accused of using another public job -- for the Gloucester County Board of Social Services -- to improperly pad his pension.
Bryant's lawyer says he did not break any laws and didn't help his employer as much as authorities say.
Also charged is Michael Gallagher, the former dean of the medical university's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford. He's accused of bribing Bryant.
