E-Mail Your Thanks To New York's Subway HeroResponses:Mr. Autrey, I'm proud of you. Your actions were nothing short of what heroes are made of. I'm a retired Postal Police Officer and always believe in helping others, so this story really made me feel good. Thank you for caring.
-- Knoppie Rhem Wesley Autrey-
God bless you and your family! God has a plan for each of us, and I'm glad you were willing to listen to that tiny voice within your soul, calling you to action on January 2. This is a life-changing experience for you, your daughters and your family, for Cameron Hollopeter and his family, and for all of us. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers for a long, long time.
Take care, keep a strong sense of humor, and remember that God will give you what He knows you can handle.
When you get a chance, please give your Mom an extra hug for raising you and your siblings in faith, and for nurturing God's gift of reaching out with kindness, care and compassion, above and beyond the call of duty.
Sincere thanks,
Pat Reisdorf, St. Charles, IllinoisMr. Autrey,
My wife Edwina Filbert is a survivor of a similar incident which took place back in the 80's where she fell to the tracks of the 14th street train station in Manhattan after herself having a seizure. If it wasn't for the good samaritan(s) that helped her after she had fallen I might not have been writing you this well deserved thank you. I am happy to say that she is now 40 years old and is the proud recipient of a specially trained Service Dog that is trained to help people with Epilepsy. He is a 3 year old black Lab named Sid and has been feature on NY1 (with Edwina and I) on 2 separate occassions. On behalf of Edwina, Sid, myself and our family I would like to say that the we will be forever greatful that their are people such as yourself that are willing to put themselves before others.
Sweet dreams and love to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Paul ThompsonYou are a great man. In addition to the life you saved, you uplifted many people by your act of bravery and concern for your fellow man.
-- AnonymousIt is amazing to see someone risk their own life to save another! You say your not a hero, but your instincts and quick thinking are phenomenal. I am a parent and I couldn't imagine facing down a train to save a stranger. Truly amazing!
-- TrishHero ? Yes! Good makes good. We only need 2 million more of you! Feel good!
-- AnonymousMr. Autrey:
You have earned the right to be called, or not be called, whatever you want so if you say you're not a hero, I won't try to convince you otherwise. But I'm proud to live in the same country as you. May your well-deserved fame bring only happiness to you and your family.
-- DavidYou rescued a man in need right by my Alma Mater. Only wish I had been there to see it. Instead of yet another tragedy on the news, you gave us a story of inspiration. Thank you sir.
-- Mark from New YorkYou are truly an inspiration to us all. You saved one life, you changed the lives of his family, and you touched thousands of lives. Bravo.
-- SaraThat, aside from throwing one's self upon a live grenade was the bravest act I've ever heard in all my 74 years.
You sir ARE a hero, and may God Bless you!
-- John from TexasDear Mr. Autrey,
In this day and age where all you hear about is one person killing another, well what you did was the most unselfish thing I've heard of. There was a reason you were the one to protect that young man, I'm not sure anyone else would have done the same. I'm so glad that both of you are alright and my prayers are with you and your family. I'm also praying for the young man and his family and that they find out what caused him to fall in the first place. I hope it's nothing serious. It's people like you who show me that we can have faith in the human race. You really are a hero to me. God Bless You,
-- VanessaWow.....nice to know we really do have heroes and angels.....and good people in this world, we find ourselves hearing of all the bad in the world......Mr. Autrey, you made our day, and future a much brighter place to dream too. Bless you always....
-- Donna from Tulare, CaliforniaThanks for being someone that we can all look up to. There are enough people in the world that try to tear us down. I would guess that everyone hopes that when the moment comes that we need a hero, someone like you will be there for us--hopefully through your example, more of us will have the courage to be that hero for someone else. God bless.
-- MelissaWesley, you are the man of the year! I cannot remember ever hearing of such a selfless act.
-- PaulMr. Autrey,
It is so little to say thank you for an act such as yours. I had tears in my eyes after seeing this on the news.
I teach my 5 boys that acts of kindness should be a daily thing and they are discovering that their lives are better for it.
Your act was the ultimate sacrifice and serves as a wonderful role model to others.
They were on TV jokingly making comments about you running for President. I must tell you that I would be first in line to vote for you. You have the integrity that is needed in a leader.
I admire and respect you.
