13th Case Of West Nile Virus Reported In Nassau

9-Year-Old Boy Recovering At Home After Hospitalization

MINEOLA (CBS) ― A 9-year-old boy is now recovering at home after being hospitalized with the thirteenth case of the West Nile Virus in Nassau County.

The Department of Health reported the individual became ill on August 30 with fever, nausea and headaches. He was hospitalized on September 2, eventually being discharged on September 11.

The latest case brings the total on Nassau County to 13, of which three deaths have resulted.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and remember to continue to remove standing water from around their homes to prevent breeding of new mosquitoes. Mosquitoes will continue to be active until the weather gets cold enough to have two overnight frosts.
