What's Worrying You: 'What's Best For Us?'
CBS 2 HD's Magee Hickey Spoke To Concerned New York City Residents In Times Square; 'Uncertainty' Seemed To Resonate The Most
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
More people are expressing concern over the escalating financial crisis. CBS 2 HD wants you to tell us 'What's Worrying You.'
When President Bush took to the airwaves briefly Tuesday morning to warn of painful and lasting damage to the economy if the bailout bill isn't passed soon, people in New York City's Times Square listened and took note:
"I'm concerned about my 401K and where it's headed and I hope Congress acts and stops all this partisan bickering back and forth," said Tony Colavito.
"I don't think they have a choice at this point. We have to move forward. I think they will lose more than a few thousand jobs. We'll learn from our past mistakes," said New York resident Lisa Williams.
On the Upper West Side, not known as a bastion of presidential supporters, many said they reluctantly support Bush's call for decisive action now:
"It's the only way to go. If we don't pass it, the economy is going downhill. It has to be a consensus," said Upper West Side resident Chad Lazar.
"I probably agree with him. We need some help. I don't think letting banks fail is the way to go," said Sue Holden.
Person after person said they are personally worried about losing their jobs or not being able to find one as this economy worsens:
"I pay my mortgage. I pay my rent. Now I worry I won't have a job. I believe the trickle down from Wall Street is to blame. I have no idea what will happen next," said caretaker Launa Mathews.
"My portfolio is going way down and I have no job and I worry that this bailout is totally wrong for the country and won't work," said Aimee Ross of the Upper West Side.
