Police Seek Husband Of Woman Found Slashed In Car
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
A 39-year-old woman found stabbed to death in the front seat of a car at a 24-hour municipal city garage in lower Manhattan Tuesday night and police are eager to talk her estranged husband about the murder.
The victim, identified as Leonida Davila of the Bronx, was found at 11:50 p.m. in the front of a black Chevy Suburban on the second floor of the garage located on Essex Street near Delancey.
Police were alerted to the scene by a 911 call made from the garage, in which the caller said there was an unconscious woman.
Investigators say Davila's neck was slashed when she was found. EMS responded and pronounced her dead at the scene.
"This is very shocking to me. Totally surprising. I am totally shocked," said Ellen Morris, Davila's neighbor.
Police were conducting a weapons search inside the garage Wednesday morning. They are also looking at surveillance videotapes to determine when the black Suburban arrived at the garage.
They don't know if the woman was dead in the car as it arrived.
Authorities are now seeking Davila's estranged husband, William Davila, 42, for questioning in the case. He is described as 5-foot-6, 160 pounds with dark hair and brown eyes.
Neighbors say the victim was raising her two children alone after the recent breakup of her marriage.
"She was a nice Hispanic woman, very warn. I hadn't seen her in a while. The last time I'd seen her she was broken," said Davila's neighbor Judine Joyner.
