Laundromat Worker's Murder A Mystery In Yonkers

By JOSH LANDIS, CBS 2 HD News
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBS) ― Yonkers police are investigating the suspicious death of a young laundromat worker found dead inside her workplace.

Roberta Galicia-Lagos was a fixture at the Yonkers Laundromat on 260 Hawthorne Ave. But the 25-year-old didn't survive a violent encounter on Monday morning.

Galicia-Lagos was apparently cleaning the Laundromat as she does every morning when police say an attacker entered and killed her. Sources tell CBS 2 that investigators believe she was strangled. Her partially clothed body was left in this bathroom, which customers say is normally locked.

Customers and others who saw her on a daily basis were shocked to hear of her death.

"She was a very good girl. She was working hard to, you know, survive," said local businessman Emil Maha. "It is a tragedy. I mean it's a tragedy for everybody.".

Galicia-Lagos held another part-time job at a nearby McDonalds, where a co-worker described her as a good addition to the staff.

John Catala, a regular at the laundromat said he spoke to Galicia-Lagos often and there were no signs of trouble.

"It feels kind of weird that she's not here," Catala told CBS 2. "People that come into the laundromat, we're always asking her, 'How's your family?' and so on, and it seems that everything was doing fine. She never looked distressed or abused or anything like that."

Police are using bloodhounds to search for clues and are questioning people in the neighborhood, looking for someone or something that will help them find the person who took the woman's young life.

If you have any information regarding Galicia-Lagos' death, you are urged to call police.
