Barry Bonds is now two home runs shy of catching Babe Ruth for second place on the all-time list.
The Giants left fielder smacked his 712th home run in the eighth inning of this afternoon's game against visiting San Diego.
Bonds' fourth homer of the year came off San Diego reliever Scott Linebrink. He's the 419th pitcher to allow a home run to the Giants slugger.
The Padres led 5-to-2 before Bonds' solo smash to center field.
